"Talak"
also known as Divorce. Not a great situation to be in but let’s face it,
it is becoming more and more common these days. Many people will be aware of the
negativity surrounding divorce in Asian communities. However it should be clear
that although divorce is disliked in Islam it is permissible. Therefore people
should not talk badly of those who find themselves in such situations. Instead
they should pray for them and offer their remorse over the situation. In
south Asian communities, divorce is usually frowned upon. And more often than
not we hear people criticizing the girl for not being tolerant enough.
Although both
parties of a marriage should go into it with a level of tolerance and be
prepared to compromise, this shouldn't mean that one should have to continue
tolerating behavior which would normally be deemed unacceptable. This goes for
both guys and girls! It is sad to hear about people who stay in a lifeless,
unhappy and sometimes even abusive relationship just to avoid the embarrassment
of the community 'talking' or the stigma of a failed marriage sticking to their
name.
Mothers don't want
their children marrying a divorcee in fear that there 'must be something wrong
with them'. We need to remember that we are human beings, we all make mistakes.
Sometimes people don't really know their other half until they live with them.
And you know what, some people are just not right for each other. It happens! It is important to look further than people's pasts. One should make an
informed and sensible judgement of an individual rather than listening to the
gossip about their previous break up. Everyone goes through trials and tribulations and as a community we should do
our best to support one another instead of putting each other down. Surely
everybody deserves a 'happily ever after'. Contributed by@theneverland21#thevoicetoday
